A nice red wine and some high-quality weed will bring about maximum comfort…
As an adult, I have grown to appreciate a fine wine. I’ve come a long way since suffering through bagged red wine in college and have learned that spending $20+ on a bottle is well worth it.
Similarly, my taste for weed has developed, as I now have a much higher bar for what I am willing to smoke out of. I don’t claim to be a master sommelier; however, I do drink red wine and smoke weed every Friday night as a treat for another week in the books. I want to share with you what I have discovered.
Here are my favorite pairings and why:
1. Cabernet Sauvignon and Skywalker OG
In southwest France in the seventeenth century, a breeding took place between a red Cabernet Franc grape plant and a white Sauvignon Blanc grape plant and thus was born Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, it is the most popular grape among American wine drinkers.
It is a red grape varietal known for its thick, durable skin, and resistance to the elements. Cab (as the cool people call it) began being adopted in parts of France by winemakers searching for more durable plants that were relatively easy to grow. The famous wine region of Bordeaux was discovered to perfectly fit this need.
I am not alone in Cabernet Sauvignon being my favorite wine because it is truly delicious. It has character but is also smooth enough to sit back and drink while hanging out on a Friday night and watching a game.
Sky Walker OG is an indica-dominant hybrid cross between Skywalker and OG Kush. Its top terpenes include Limonene, Caryophyllene, and Bisabolol.
SkyWalker OG is my favorite strand to kick back and relax with. I recommend rolling a joint with it – have that in one hand while keeping your wine in the other.
Individually, these two are my favorite but they are even better when you mix them. I promise you it will put you in an extremely relaxed place…zzzzz
2. Merlot and Girl Scout Cookies
Merlot is my second favorite red wine behind Cab. It is known for being ripe, soft, and elegant. It is an easy drinking red that makes it an approachable grape varietal. I recommend this for those who do not often drink red wine – especially, if this is your first real attempt at weed and wine.
Girl Scout Cookies is an award-winning strain that has been a favorite for decades. This amazing strand is aromatic, entrancing, and earthy. The flavor reminds those who have tried this weed of the addicting Girl Scout Cookies they grew up with.
Merlot is my choice when I want something super easy to drink that will flow smoothly. It goes down easy and also results in a fun tipsy feeling.
Girl Scout Cookies is the very first strain of weed that I learned about. I would often know the name of a strain but not care at all… until, one day I smoked Girl Scout Cookie and immediately took note because it was very potent and made me extremely happy and relaxed.
These two make a great pair. Drink a glass and take a couple bong rips, throw on some toons and chat the night away.
3. Zinfandel and Platinum Kush
Zinfandel is planted in over 10% of all Californian vineyards and has been made truly popular by the California wine scene. The Zinfandel grape is a big, ripe, red grape that produces some of the highest alcohol content of any red wine on the market (14–17%). Zinfandels have come to be known for their jammy, fruity characteristics from the hot sun in California.
Platinum Kush is an indica-dominant strain named for its platinum-silver shade resulting from its crystal resin. With purple hues and bright orange hairs, its buds grow dense with a sweet fruity and hashy aroma. Its THC content can measure up to about 18% with trace levels of CBD. It is known for the relaxing and upbeat high that it brings.
These two are both fruity and are perfect for a summer BBQ with your friends and/or family. If you roll a blunt of this, open a couple bottles, and throw some pork in the smoker and burgers on the grill you are sure to have a good time and be lifted.
4. Chardonnay and Lemon Skunk
Chardonnay has become the most popular white wine on earth. It can be simple or regal, aged for many years or consumed immediately. There are many variations of Chardonnay and for me it is the most dependable white wine.
Lemon Skunk is known for its zesty lemon traits (hence the name). The skunky, citrus flavor draws you in and it is known for its happy, energetic buzz. DNA Genetics has developed Lemon Skunk as a great strain for combating depression and stress.
Chardonnay is the one white that makes the list because if you find a good chilled Chardonnay it will be delicious and give you the famous (or infamous) white wine drunk. Smoking a joint of Lemon Skunk pairs perfectly with white wine because it also gives you a chatty and happy high that will have you talking to everyone around. This is a perfect combo for a rooftop party or a day at the park.
5. Pinot Noir and Trainwreck
Pinot Noir is arguably the most romanticized red wine in the world. With its many festivals and devoted following, it has gotten a bit of a wrap as a wine for wine snobs; however, it is still truly a tasty wine. Pinot Noir producers do not refer to their Pinot Noir wine as Pinot Noir, but instead as red Burgundy, after the region where it’s made (Burgundy, France). These wines have flavors of ripe red berries, sweet black cherries, and mushrooms.
Trainwreck is a mind-bending hybrid with potent sativa effects that hit right away. Mexican and Thai sativas were bred with Afghani indicas to produce this sweet lemon and spicy pine hybrid. After smoking you will feel euphoria, awakening creativity, and happiness. Migraines, pain, and arthritis are mowed down by Trainwreck’s high THC content, and many patients also use it for relief of anxiety.
This combination of a classic red with a more upbeat hybrid is a great choice for catching up with siblings or friends that you have not seen in a while.
That rounds out the top 5.
These are just some of my favorite combinations but mix and match them and let me know what you think.
I hope you find the same joy in this amazing combination as I do, and it brightens up your weekends with something relaxing and fun to look forward to.
